The Yarmouth, MA landfill

This 60 acre landfill closure, located in the resort community of Yarmouth on Cape Cod, was the state of Massachusetts’ first re-use project. This award winning project, in conjunction with Camp, Dresser, & McKee, converted a municipal landfill into a public golf course – all under the tight mandates of a consent order decree.

The project included 6” of bedding sand, a 40 mil synthetic wrap, and a layer of contouring sand that ranged from 18” to 10’ to achieve the golf course features. Forty gas extraction wells feed into a gas-burning flare. The site included a unique ozone injection plant that allowed water from an adjacent wastewater plant to be used in a 60-acre irrigation system.
